The BSA Mercury was a Break Barrel spring powered Air Rifle first produced in 1972, by BSA Guns Limited, Birmingham, UK, Gamo's new subsidiary BSA Guns (UK) Limited. Hi Mitch, the Mk. Mk. 2s had the serial numbers stamped in front of the trigger guard. The stocks on both the mk. I believe manufactured by a spanish company. The stocks had no rubber recoil pad fitted as in later variants. Most Mk. 1's had no method of attaching a scope (no rails) although there were a few later ones and those that were modified by owners/gunsmiths. Mk. 1 had the turret fixed rearsight, the Mk. Bsa Airsporter Serial NumbersP.S. Mk1 serial numbers prefixed 'G' or 'GB' (GI often misread as G1 - which is a Mk4 with rubber recoil pad) There are some 'mint' examples of Mk1s around, both. B10 - Mainsprings. For Airsporter but will fit many other models ie Mercury, all Bsa break barrels apart from Cadet, Cadet Major, Meteor and pre war breakdown pattern. The Mk. 1 barrel was a forged one piece affair and is the only Airsporter with a tapered barrel - all others had the parallel barrel that was sweated into the action. Hope this helps! Airsporterman.
